Principal Message

Dear Parents, Students, Alumni and Friends,

Central Union High School a 2007 California Distinguished School!

As the Principal of CUHS, I want to personally invite you to visit our campus and observe our academic and extracurricular programs. We are proud to inform our school community about our educational programs, accomplishments, and the areas we are striving to improve for all students. At Central we believe that parents, students, and staff are partners in education.

Our academic programs and extracurricular activities are comprehensive, meeting the needs of a variety of students. Enriched coursework includes honors and advanced placement courses. We are extremely proud of our AVID program which receives National Certification each year. Central has a strong Academic Decathlon program winning the Imperial County Championship 32 years in a row, and counting! Our Mock Trial Team consistently competes for the Imperial County Championship. The Robotics and Rocketry Team have each competed in their respective fields and have done an excellent job. Central continues to have students qualify for the Grater San Diego Science Fair and we consistently top the county competition. We have a vocational education program that includes a NATEF Certified Auto Shop Program; and numerous Regional Occupational Program courses. One of our educational goals is make sure our Limited English Speaking students have access to the Core Curriculum. Our performing groups which include the “Great Spartan Band", Drill Team, Tall Flags, and Spartan Singers are second to none. We have a comprehensive athletic program for both boys and girls that that bring home Imperial Valley League championships and qualify to compete in the San Diego CIF Championships.

Central Union High School continues to meet many challenges. Our scores on the 2010 the California State Standards test were the best since 2006, and our 2011 CAHSEE scores improved dramatically! Our Academic Performance Index (API) is the highest in the history of our school and is one of the tops in our county. Our modernization plan was finally funded by the state and we are in the process of remodeling our Band, MPR, Cafeteria, English, and Library building. The construction will be completed by the spring of 2012. We are continually reviewing and revising our curriculum to make it more rigorous and relevant. Our staff continues to work in professional learning communities, reviewing data to help support instruction. We continue to graduate outstanding young Spartans, ready to take on the world!
