Important Update: Online Instruction & Credit Recovery
Dear Parents and Families,
As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, Central Union High School District is implementing an important change regarding online instruction and credit recovery at our comprehensive high schools.
Beginning this school year, students at our comprehensive high schools may earn no more than 20 credits total during their 4 years of high school through online instruction/credit recovery offered onsite through an educational agency or third-party vendor. Of those 20 credits, no more than 15 credits may be recovered during Summer School.
This change is intended to reinforce the importance of students successfully completing their courses during the regular school year, staying on track toward graduation, and being instructed by a content expert.
What This Means for Students
The 20-credit maximum applies to the student’s entire four years of high school, not each academic year. Credit recovery is an important opportunity for students who need to make up credits, but the opportunity is limited. Students should not rely on online credit recovery as an alternative to successfully completing their regular classes.
We strongly encourage students to:
Attend school regularly and be engaged in class.
Complete assignments and seek help when they are struggling.
Communicate with teachers and counselors early if they are having difficulty in a course.
Take advantage of tutoring, academic support, and other resources available during the school year.
Make every effort to pass their classes the first time.
A Reminder About Summer School
Students may only recover up to 15 credits during Summer School as part of the 20-credit maximum for online instruction/credit recovery through an onsite educational agency or third-party vendor.
Because these opportunities are limited, students and families should plan carefully and work with their school counselor to remain on track for graduation.
Every credit matters. Every class matters. Every year matters.
Our goal is to support every student in earning the credits they need and graduating on time. The best way to stay on track is to successfully complete your classes during the regular school year.
